A story of shared vision
Annette and Matiu didn't even know they had a truffiere when they purchased the land in Ōhiwa in 2011. What they found wasn't just a property, but a legacy.
There had been a test block of inoculated oak and hazelnut trees planted back in 1988, and bore the name Truffiére Croix du Sud, after the Southern Cross constellation that rises directly above the field.

Disaster Strikes
In 2014, just as harvest was peaking and products were gaining momentum, an aerial top dresser dumped tonnes of organic fertiliser on the wrong property. It killed everything. Spores lay dormant. No truffles. And no support from the industry.

Truffles return!
After slowly, painfully beginning again, truffles finally returned in 2019. The grove, now 38 years old, was producing again!
The years of downtime were spent in research. What is it about the truffle that captivated kings, chefs and healers for centuries?
We sent samples to Massey University and found something amazing!

Since taking over, we've planted over 12,000 truffle seedlings, with a goal of reaching 30,000.
We've also helped other truffle growers who felt forgotten by the association, and developed our own signature ranges of Culinary and Skincare products, all infused with the Black Perigord Truffle and native New Zealand botanicals.
